Is this an emergency?

Call Tonight, or Call Tomorrow?

Some things genuinely cannot wait. Some can, and we would rather tell you that than charge you for a night call you did not need.

While you wait

Before We Get There

Four things that keep the situation from getting worse, and one that matters more than all of them.

If you smell gas

Leave the house first. Then call the gas company. Then call us. Nothing else on this page matters more than that.

01 Leave the house 02 Call the gas company 03 Then call us

Do not switch anything on or off on your way out.

Otherwise
Shut it off if it is making noise or smells like burning 01

Shut it off if it is making noise or smells like burning

Running a failing system is how a repair becomes a replacement.

Do not reset the breaker repeatedly 02

Do not reset the breaker repeatedly

If it trips twice, it is telling you something. Leave it off and wait for us.

Keep the house safe, not just warm 03

Keep the house safe, not just warm

Space heaters on extension cords, ovens left open, and unattended heaters cause more harm every winter than the broken furnace did.

Close up the house 04

Close up the house

Curtains drawn, doors shut, everyone in fewer rooms. It buys you hours in either direction.

How dispatch works

What Happens After You Call

Four steps, in this order, whatever time it is.

An after hours emergency call handled by Southern Heating and Cooling in Central Kentucky.
Answered in Junction City
The person who answers the phone. Dispatch log
Live
00:00 01
A person answers
Not a call centre, not a voicemail box that gets checked in the morning. You describe what is happening to someone who understands it.
00:02 02
We triage it honestly
No heat in freezing weather goes to the front. If yours can safely wait until morning, we will say so and book you first thing.
00:05 03
You get a real time, not a window
We tell you when we can be there. If that is two hours, we say two hours rather than sometime tonight.
On arrival 04
Diagnosis, price, then work
Even at 2am, you hear what is wrong and what it costs before anything gets touched.

Cost

What It Costs at Midnight

After hours pricing is normal in this trade. Finding out about it on the invoice is not.

The diagnostic $75

Comes off the total if you go ahead with the repair

After hours and weekends $0

Quoted on the phone before anyone is dispatched

What you will hear before we dispatch 00:04

Before I send anyone out, the diagnostic is $75, and after hours it is $0. That comes off the total if you go ahead with the repair.

The person who answers the phone. Whoever picks up, every time
Said before dispatch, not on the invoice

Whatever it is, you hear it on the phone before we dispatch, not when we hand you the invoice.

When It Is a Building, Not a House

A failed rooftop unit on a Saturday is lost trade, spoiled stock, or a building nobody can work in.

Questions

Answered Before You Have to Ask

Nothing to click. At 2am nobody wants an accordion.

Call 859-324-2770

Do you really answer at night?

Yes. Call 859-324-2770 and a person will pick up. Tell us what is happening and we will tell you honestly when we can be there.

How fast can you get to me?

It depends on where you are and what is already running. We will give you a real time on the phone rather than a vague window.

Does an emergency call cost more?

After hours and weekend calls carry a premium, and you hear the figure on the phone before anyone is dispatched. Never on the invoice.

My heat is out but the house is still warm. Should I call now or wait?

Call and describe it. In freezing weather, sooner is better because a cold house drops faster than people expect. If it can safely wait, we will tell you and book you first thing.

Safety

I smell gas. What do I do?

Leave the house. Call the gas company from outside. Then call us. Do not switch anything on or off on your way out.

Do you handle residential emergencies?

Yes. Rooftop units, packaged systems, and full mechanical systems across Central Kentucky.

Can you fix it the same night?

Usually, when the part is on the truck. If something has to be ordered, we will get the house safe and workable and tell you the same night what happens next.
